We officially wrapped up Turtle Season on October 1st. The final two weeks were very busy as we finished up all our data, cleaned up all the gear, prepared and organized equipment and supplies for next year, and packed up all our personal belongings.
During this time we also transitioned to the Main House, where we spent a few weeks living with Mrs. West. This was a very different experience from living at the turtle house. Mrs. West is an amazing woman, and we really enjoyed spending time with her.
We left the island on October 17th, the day after the annual Pig Roast & Art Auction, where we came away with a few pieces to remember the island by (not that we could ever forget).
So much time has already passed since we left. Kate and I were both hoping to recap for you the events at the end, but life moves fast and we've been busy with things next. And while we may yet find time to come back and add a few things, we wanted to add a proper ending to the blog.
Kate and I would like to thank all of you that followed our adventure - your enthusiasm fed ours. We'd also like to thank Georgia DNR & The Ossabaw Island Foundation, and specifically, Mark Dodd, Adam Mackinnon, Jim Bitler, Andy and Amanda Meadows, and of course Mrs. Eleanor Torry West. You all made our summer an amazing one, thanks for your support and for the all the work you do for Ossabaw.
